Amanda - Founder / Reviewer @ Off The Book

I was born in New York and raised in Brooklyn. I spent most of my childhood curled up in an enormous chair at the Brooklyn Public Library reading anything I could get my hands on - medical dictionaries, Middle Eastern history, Goosebumps, and one really memorable illustrated book filled with fantasy creatures.

Not much has changed. I live in New York after some college adventures in DC, and still read a book a week. I love hedgehogs, turtles, iced mocha lattes, and fantasy novels. I am a kid lit publicist for Penguin Young Readers Group (see disclaimer below).

I love being the go-to person for book recommendations for my friends, and I love writing about the books I've read. I'm excited to share my passion for literature in an accessible, not too technical way here on Off The Book.

Anna - YA Contributor @ Off The Book

After more than two decades of city living, I now live in a tiny town in the mountains of Northern California. My companions are a misanthropic cat named Poki, a boisterous puppy named Skyler, and more books than I'll ever manage to read.

My day job is at a solar energy company. The rest of my time is spent reading—mostly YA literature, though I have a growing appreciation for  literary fiction—and having Thoughts and Opinions about television, women, pop culture, criticism, the Internet, and memes. Among many other things.

I love Veronica Mars, bubblegum pop music, and reinterpretations of Shakespeare. I believe in the Church of Baseball. I named my dog after Skyler White, and I have zero tolerance for lazy criticism of lady characters. This includes an intense dislike for cursory complaints about “tropes” and archetypes like InstaLove and the Manic Pixie Dream Girl.

My goal for the next five years is to save enough money to open a used and new bookstore in my town, and nothing makes me happier than hearing that someone has read and loved a book on my recommendation. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly with comments, suggestions, or requests for specific recommendations!
