On September 26, 2013, I was lucky enough to attend the launch party celebrating the publication of Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston's latest novel Frozen. Frozen is the first installment of the new Heart of Dread series, and the first novel where Melissa's husband Michael is being publicly recognized as a co-author. Melissa is best known for her immensely popular Witches of East End series (now on Lifetime) and the supernatural Blue Bloods series.

While I haven't read her other novels (yet), Frozen was definitely intriguing, and it was with great pleasure that I checked out the book party over at Tyler Rollins Fine Art in New York, NYFrozen follows a young blackjack dealer from the post-apocalyptic New Vegas who searches for a paradise where the world is still unsullied, and where she can live a life without persecution for her dangerous secret.

The location - Tyler Rollins Fine Art, in case you've forgotten - was amazing. I'm a major art buff, so it's always fun to visit a place where your two passions are combined - books & art! The Future That Was, an exhibit by Patricia Perez Eustaquio set the scene, and guests were greeted with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Fruzen Ice provided delicious and unique gelatin cocktails and fruit in the form of crafted ice (shaped like dragons, actually!), which made the perfect addition to the wine and champagne on offer.

Johnston and de la Cruz were joined by friends and family, as well as Penguin Group team members, reality TV personality Alex McCord, art gallery director Tyler Rollins, and writer for the New York Observer, Ben Widdicombe.

Melissa de la Cruz made a heart-warming speech about how excited she was about the event. I was especially touched when she said, "Everything we ever talked about is in the book. If you like the book then you kind of like us." Well, luckily both the book and the authors are extremely likable.

The book was published by Penguin on September 17, 2013, and is currently available in book stores and online. For more information about the authors, or previously written novels, visit melissa-delacruz.com.

Now for the photos, under the cut!
