Books I Review

I will review any genre that I find interesting. My interests run the gamut from YA fiction, contemporary fiction, classics and biographies to political non-fiction and history. You name it, I'll probably read it. However, I typically do not review picture books, children's chapter books, religion, or self-help.

My favorite genres are historical fiction (particularly those having something to do with art), contemporary fiction, any books having to do with LGBT or female narrators, and fantasy.

How To Submit Books For Review

I accept both physical and e-books for review. I always prefer physical copies for review (including bound ARCs & galleys), but I'm an open-minded bookworm with an e-reader. I do not write positive reviews for compensation - if given a book, I will always give my honest, unprejudiced opinion. Reviews are not guaranteed - if I'm unable to finish the book for whatever reason, it's unlikely that it will be fully reviewed. I also do not accept books from midway through a series (unless I have already read & reviewed it) without reading and reviewing the books that precede it.

To submit a book for review, please e-mail offthebookblog@gmail.com. Due to the large number of e-mails I receive per day, I do not always respond to e-mails regarding review or publicity requests. However, if I have agreed to read a book, please feel free to ask for an update. I cannot guarantee that unsolicited books will be read or reviewed.

Want Me To Review a Book Event/Reading/Poetry Slam?

I regularly attend and review literary-focused events, book readings and signings, launch parties and poetry slams in New York City. If you have an event you would like me to attend, review or publicize, please e-mail me at offthebookblog@gmail.com. Please send full details, including what kind of press is expected of me, any related photos or images, and of course the date & time (you'd be surprised how many releases I get that don't mention the time! It boggles my mind).

What's My Style?

I try to keep my reviews short, intriguing, and to the point. I want my readers to get an accessible glimpse of the book. My goal is to get readers into what I'm into --  obviously, overly academic writing isn't my thing. I'm educated, and that shows, but I don't like to condescend to my readers. Any book - even the most academic - can be interesting to everyone. You just have to word it correctly.

My ratings range from 1 star to 5 stars:
1 star - Didn't enjoy at all/loathed it.
2 stars - Major issues with the book, not a fan.
3 stars - Enjoyed the book, but there were some flaws or issues. Would still recommend.
4 stars - A great book, but not a favorite.
5 stars - The best of the best...I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

All reviews are posted here, on Examiner.com, my personal Facebook, the Off The Book Facebook page, Twitter (@AmandaMustafic), and on Goodreads. Books received will be mentioned as a #bookhaul on my personal Instagram (@myonlyappeal).

So You Want To Be A Guest Blogger?

I accept guest bloggers from all walks of life. I like to have a diverse, interesting blog that represents multiple points of view. Reviews do not have to follow my format. However, I reserve the right to (lightly) edit, reject or promote according to my wishes. Guest posts must be submitted with a photo of the book, full review, brief bio of the guest blogger (you!) and with any links you would like to include. If you run your own book blog, I will be happy to link to you.

Please e-mail me at offthebookblog@gmail.com with any questions, suggestions, or address requests.

FTC Disclosure of Material Connection: I receive most of the books I review for free from the publisher/author/book review bloggers program(s). Receiving a copy of your book does not require me to give a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
